Why it's the clear winner?

Versatility! This boat works great on whitewater up to Class 3 and on open lakes and oceans.

We probably would have named the Sea Eagle Explorer the best inflatable kayak without this feature, but the ability to easily change it from a self-bailing kayak to a dry interior kayak easily puts the Sea Eagle Explorer inflatable kayaks at the top of the list for the overall winner as the best inflatable kayak for personal use.

Best whitewater inflatable kayaks

There are many other great whitewater inflatable kayaks.

My choice for the three best whitewater inflatable kayaks for personal use are:

1. NRS Bandit"- It's light and tough and has a great whitewater design.

2. "Sevylor XK High Performance River Kayak"- Sevylor can now run with the big boys. These boats give you performance, toughness, and durability.

3. "Aire Tomcat"- This lowly inflatable kayak has risen up the ranks over the years. It makes this list because of ok quality and a great price.

Either I'm prejudiced or I'm practicing what I preach. Most of these are the inflatable kayaks we use in our commercial whitewater rafting business. We also use the Custom Inflatable Thrillcats. They are great boats at a good price. They don't make the list simply because they are not distributed as widely.

Best ocean/sea inflatable kayaks

In a two person inflatable kayak, there is a lot of stress put on the center of the boat. Good quality inflatable kayaks handle this stress with no problem. Lower quality two person inflatable kayaks usually do a poor job of handling this stress.
